A message from drummer, Will Hull-Brown
Friday, September 17, 2021
Twenty years ago, I answered the phone in my parent’s lounge room, and it was Felix on the line. He asked me to join his new band called ‘The Cat Empire’. I was hesitant, as I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. Felix was persistent, and I thank him for that because what unfolded next was an incredible whirlwind of music-making and touring the world, sharing the whole experience with amazing people far and wide.
Life evolves, however, and after all this time, I am leaving the band. I am ready for the next chapter. It’s not easy to hang up the drumsticks for a band you have been part of for more than half your life, but I know the time is right, and I see it as a chance to celebrate what has been an incredible 20 years.
What I really loved about playing in this band was those moments where anything musically could’ve happened on stage—playing on the edge of your seat—feeling like you’re on a fast train that wants to lose control. The fans provided a lot of that crazy energy too.
To the guys in the band, our manager Correne, everyone who’s worked at TCE HQ over the years, all our crew, our incredible fans, and of course my own family – you have my love and respect. Thank you. I will forever be grateful. I wish Felix & Ollie all the best for the next chapter in taking this band forward into a new era. I really look forward to seeing what’s next!
Tickets for the final shows of the original line-up in WA, QLD and VIC, and the virtual concert will go on sale on Tuesday, September 21 at 10.00 am local time in each state.
